I went to the MadArts Open Studio show this afternoon in Brooklyn, NY and spent about 3 hours talking with many of the artists (and considering subletting a space for my own use at MadArts).

The building looked a little different than the picture above - but I had a good time and there were many good artists renting studio space.

Here are some of the artists I spoke with and with whom I could get pictures online:

Beka Goedde’s work reminded me of an a room I saw at the Whitney Museum a couple of weeks ago that was a recreation of Marcel Duchamp’s 1939 show (I think it was that).   I enjoyed talking to Beka and she is very articulate about her work.  In the studio, a hanging curtin was used both to hang work and to shield the studio from a harsher ceiling.

Katerina Fiore had one of the nicer and neater studios at MadArts and her paintings were professional, consistant; she was working on a painting of two dragons fighting which was a little different than other paintings I saw in her studio space.

Laura Hoke 

Laura Hoke’s work is even, very painterly, mature and she’s ready to show on her own, she just needs the right opportunity.  I enjoyed looking at many of painterly touches and all of her paintings stand on their own.
