Interactive show mobbed
Just heard about NYU’s Interactive Art Show (I’ll try to drop by tonight just before it closes) from SmartMobs. If’ I’m successful in making it to the Spring Show - I’ll write up a long review here on Webmetricsguru.com
One fellow had a wire sculpture that looked a bit like human arms. The arms moved to semaphore the information it was receiving from emails. Another showed me an exercise interaction stage where toys of choice respond to the workouts of children with disabilities. Another demonstrated a dog training game played by texting. Being old enough to remember when we created headlines for ads by pulling proofs from offset letters, I stood for a long time watching an exhibit with some of the now antique block letters as they moved to echo incoming spelled data from the Internet.
Most telling to me was the accepting ambiance of the affair. There was no sign of a “gee whiz, how do you do that” atmosphere. Interactive innovation is now mainstream and these students are riding a fundamental force shaping the present as well as the future.
These are the kind of events to go to - because you can see new talent emerging. A couple of years ago I lent a copy of my Wild Divine Biofeedback game to a student in the ITN program and I when I came to pickup my biofeedback game he game me a tour of the Tisch School of the Arts. I was very impressed with the work I saw and that was 2 years ago.
