Blogs ‘essential’ to a good career

Just got done posting about how blogging is good for your mental health and now i’m told that blogging is also good for your career (and it has been good for mine, so far). Thanks fot BL Ochman for keying me into this.

Blogging is good for your career, says The Boston Globe, because a well-executed blog sets you apart as an expert in your field.

Blogging gives you a way to control what employers — who regularly Google potential hires — see, because Google’s system works in such a way that blogs that are heavily networked with others come up high in Google searches. The advantages of blogging include:

  • Blogging creates a network.  (I know that’s true)
  • Maintaining an active blog helps you really get to know your topic well; great training for a job.
  • Blogging could be your big break.
    And my favorite:
  • Blogging makes the world a better place. That’s because networked bloggers are adding to the information pool instead of always just taking information provided by others.
  • The original source for this information is the Boston Globe and since i’m in Boston this week for Webmasterworld, it’s even more relevent to mention that I’m reporting for Know More Media at Webmasterworld - and that would not have happened (I would have had to pay for my admission) had I not been a blogger.
